Southampton failed to move themselves out of the Premier League relegation zone as they drew on Wednesday night.

Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Guido Carrillo’s display after they got their first real glimpse of the club’s record signing in action for Mauricio Pellegrino’s side.

In a window that Saints supporters would have been forgiven for looking at being potentially vital for their survival hopes, Carrillo’s arrival was one of only two pieces of real notable business from the south coast side.

Virgil van Dijk leaving for Liverpool saw Southampton bag a record amount from a sale, while the £19.2 million that the club spent on Carrillo – according to the Guardian – makes him their most expensive signing ever.

And after he played the final few minutes of the FA Cup win over Watford at the weekend, he was given 45 minutes to try and make an impact in the crucial clash with Brighton and Hove Albion at St Mary’s on Wednesday.

It was no surprise that Pellegrino threw Carrillo into the equation at the break with the Saints looking extremely poor in the first-half and a goal down against a team that they may be battling with in a potential relegation scrap at the end of the season.

And while Saints did bag their equaliser, it was Jack Stephens who made it two goals in two for him, meaning that Southampton have not seen a striker score since Shane Long’s goal in the defeat to Crystal Palace at the very start of January.

And there appears to be a divided opinion about whether Carrillo is going to be their saviour in front of goal. Some fans on social media were impressed and encouraged by his performance, but others are not convinced at all that he is good enough to be their one addition to the first-team during the window.

Here is the best of the reaction…
