Southampton lost 1-0 to Swansea City at the weekend but what did Saints fans make of Eljero Elia’s performance?
Southampton suffered a blow in their challenge for a top-four finish this season when they lost 1-0 at home to Swansea City at the weekend.
A goal from Jonjo Shelvey gave Garry Monk’s side an impressive victory and ensured the Saints remained fourth in the Premier League table, one point behind Manchester United and level on points with fifth-placed Arsenal.
Southampton had 63 per cent possession and 15 shots, six of which were on target, but they were made to pay when Swansea scored from their only shot on target in the entire match.
Despite their disappointment, there were still reasons to be cheerful for Saints fans, with recent addition Eljero Elia again impressing for Ronald Koeman’s side.
| Passing Accuracy | Key Passes | Shots | Dribbles | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eljero Elia | 81% | 3 | 0 | 7 | 89 |
The 27-year-old winger had a passing accuracy of 81 per cent and while he failed to have any shots – on target or otherwise – he did play three key passes to set up scoring opportunities for his teammates.
The Dutchman also went on seven trademark dribbles and on another day he could easily have proved to be the difference.
