Southampton fans react on Twitter to Derby County draw in FA Cup

The Saints led two-nil but had to settle for a replay as the Rams came back for a 2-2 draw – and some fans are not pleased.

Southampton have just been handed an unwelcome distraction in their quest for Premier League survival as they spurned a two-goal lead in their FA Cup third-round trip to Derby County.

The Saints led through Nathan Redmond’s deflected effort after just four minutes played before the winger added the second with a 25-yard strike not long after the second-half restart.

However, Jack Marriott volleyed home from Tom Lawrence’s chipped pass on 58 minutes, before the provider turned goalscorer with a drilled effort from the edge of the box just after the hour.

Indeed, Marriott came close to knocking Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side out of the competition altogether, but for his effort from 10 yards out blazing over the bar with virtually the last kick of the game.

Nevertheless, it’ll not only feel like a defeat for a lot of Southampton fans, but given they’re currently in the bottom three of the Premier League table, another game thrown in for good measure – especially when it came of their own undoing – will feel like a bitter pill to swallow.
