Southampton fans have been reacting on Twitter to the news coming out of the Daily Echo that Virgil van Dijk has returned to training with the rest of the first-team after a turbulent summer.

Many football fans would have been forgiven for thinking that van Dijk would finish the transfer window attached to another club, with the Echo reporting that he submitted a transfer request to try and force a move away having told the Saints hierarchy that he wanted to leave the previous month.

The Echo reports that the Dutchman had been training on his own. But, while his future is seemingly no nearer to being resolved, he has returned to training with the rest of his teammates ahead of the end of the international break.

The news has unsurprisingly led to plenty of discussion on social media amongst the Southampton supporters, and interestingly, there have been a range of responses.

Van Dijk is undoubtedly Southampton’s best player, so there are a number of fans who are just pleased to see him seemingly back in the fold – especially as it comes after the club stood firm after a number of years of selling their better players.

Meanwhile however, some supporters are still not ready to forgive the former Celtic man and feel that he has a significant amount of work to do before he repairs the damage that he has done.

Others have suggested that while it may be good news for now, van Dijk’s days with the club are probably still numbered, and thus, there is little reason to get carried away.
