Southampton plan to ask Manchester City if Patrick Roberts is available on loan this summer.

Southampton fans have been reacting on Twitter to the news coming out of The Sun that has suggested that Saints are keen on taking Patrick Roberts on loan from Manchester City.

The Sun reports that Roberts has a host of teams after him following his brilliant spell at Celtic, and Mauricio Pellegrino has become the latest manager to register an interest.

According to The Sun, the Saints boss plans to ask Pep Guardiola whether Roberts features in his plans during the coming campaign and follow that up with a loan move for the extremely talented 20-year-old.

The majority of the Southampton fans to have taken to social media to discuss the report appear to be generally pleased with the links – and it is arguably not difficult to see why.

Though the winger has only made three Premier League appearances in his career, his spell at Celtic not only showed that he has bags of talent, but he also has the quality to make an impact in the Champions League – having shone against his parent club in a group-stage clash last term.

And while some football fans remain adamant that players’ quality cannot be judged on their performances in the Scottish Premiership, Saints fans know better than most that some top players come from that division with the south coast club signing Victor Wanyama, Fraser Forster and Virgil van Dijk from Celtic in recent years – and they will be hoping that if a deal is agreed, Roberts becomes the latest to really make his name at Parkhead to subsequently shine at St Mary’s.
