Southampton fans react on Twitter as Everton move to sign Theo Walcott

Southampton have missed out on former star Theo Walcott as Arsenal attacker moves to Everton.

Theo Walcott is on course to seal a transfer to Everton after undergoing a medical at the club, SkySports report.

The forward is keen to quit Arsenal after falling out of favour this season, a crucial one for his World Cup hopes.

Walcott is hoping ex-England manager Sam Allardyce can revive his career, but in the process he has spurned the chance to return to former club Southampton.

The winger left Southampton in 2006 and the Saints were keen to re-sign him, with manager Mauricio Pellegrino telling SkySports he was keen to re-sign the attacker.

Southampton have had an injection of funds from selling Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool but fans are still waiting for big name additions to sign.

Walcott would have been an ideal addition for their goal-starved side, and could go on to sign in the future, but this time they have been beaten the the punch.

If Walcott was really desperate to sign for the Saints he would have held out for this move, but Everton have evidently put forward a more tempting proposal.
