Southampton fans react on Twitter to Moussa Djenepo and Cedric Soares fitness news

The Saints duo will not be available as Ralph Hasenhuttl and co travel to Wolves this weekend, desperate to bring some points back to St Mary’s.

A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to bemoan the news that Moussa Djenepo and Cedric Soares will miss the Saints’ upcoming Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers (official Southampton website).

The Saints summer signing, who won the Premier League Goal of the Month award for his solo strike against Sheffield United last month, has missed the last four matches and remains unavailable as he continues to recover from a reoccurring tendon problem.

Cedric, meanwhile, has been absent since the 4-0 win over Portsmouth in the League Cup, having picked up an injury in the warm-up ahead of the game against Tottenham Hotspur and having to be withdrawn.

At his pre-match press conference, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said of Djenepo: “He’s still not 100 percent. He’s on the pitch and can do a lot of things, but not everything. We are trying to rise the intensity of the sessions, but it will take time. (Friday) he has a scan again and then we will know a little bit more.”

Regarding Cedric, the Austrian said: “Maybe a little bit quicker, but his calf injury takes time to heal and at the moment it’s not as quick as we thought. Also for him, it’s not most important that he’s back as quick as possible but the most important thing is for it not to happen again.”

With Southampton struggling in the league at present, it was hoped that both players would have been fit for the trip to Wolves, so the news that both will miss the game was a bitter pill to swallow for some fans.

On a brighter note, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Maya Yoshida, Jan Bednarek, Kevin Danso, Stuart Armstrong and Michael Obafemi are all available for Southampton after having featured for their respective countries during the international break and coming through their games unscathed.
