Southampton have parted company with Claude Puel after just one season.
Claude Puel
Southampton fans have been reacting on Twitter after the club confirmed on their official website that they had terminated the contract of Claude Puel after just one season in charge.
Puel was given the job at St Mary’s in the wake of Ronald Koeman’s departure for Everton last summer, and while there were certainly some high points, it had appeared that the writing was on the wall for the Frenchman.

The former Lille boss guided Southampton to eighth place in the Premier League, while also leading them to the EFL Cup final and to within touching distance of making it through their Europa League group.
However, the style of play was particularly disappointing to a large section of Saints supporters, and the sound of discontent appeared to get louder and louder as the campaign wore on, with the south coast side registering their least impressive league finish since 2014.

Unsurprisingly therefore, the news that the club have confirmed on their official website has been warmly received amongst the majority of the Saints fans who have been discussing Puel’s exit on social media.
Some fans however, expressed some sympathy for the 55-year-old – though even they felt that it was the right decision by the club.

Here is the best of the reaction…
