Southampton fans’ comments should make Everton think twice about Jordy Clasie pursuit

Many Southampton suppoters remain unconvinced by Jordy Clasie – so would he really improve an already impressive Everton midfield?

Though Jordy Clasie may have been the matchwinner at the weekend, smashing home the only goal of the game against West Brom, the diminutive Dutchman is still yet to win over a number of Southampton supporters.

Therefore, if he reunites with former Saints boss Ronald Koeman at Everton in the summer, and the Daily Mirror believe he might, he won’t be too badly missed at St Marys – at least that’s the impression a number of fans give on Twitter.

Clasie’s display against West Brom was by far his most impressive performance of the Premier League season but it was also just his eleventh start. The 25-year-old has suffered the odd injury since moving to the South Coast from Feyenoord but his frequent absence from the starting XI suggests that manager Claude Puel is largely unconvinced.

After all, Clasie still appears to lack a stand-out attribute. His goals may be spectacular but they are sporadic too. Furthermore, his passing tends to be overly safe while, at just 5ft 5ins, he has been frequently bullied by more powerful opponents.

Therefore, although Koeman is clearly a fan having signed Clasie at Southampton after working together at Feyenoord, he should perhaps think twice before adding him to an Everton midfield already stocked with talent.
