Southampton missed the chance to move within one point of eighth place in the Premier League as they could only draw with relegation-threatened Hull City.
Southampton’s Cedric Soares prepares to take a throw in as Claude Puel and Sofiane Boufal look on
Southampton fans have been reacting on Twitter following the side’s disappointing goalless draw with Hull City at St Mary’s on Saturday, and it is fair to say that Claude Puel is struggling to keep the supporters on side.
The Saints missed the chance to move to within one point of eighth place West Brom in the Premier League table with a game in hand to potentially to move above the Baggies, as they failed to break down Marco Silva’s men.
Puel’s men had a brilliant chance to win the game late on as they were awarded a penalty, but Dusan Tadic’s spot-kick was superbly saved by Eldin Jakupovic.
It seems however, that a goal in stoppage-time would have done little to appease supporters who have grown frustrated with the style of play that the team have played under the Frenchman.

Despite leading the side to the EFL Cup final and a spirited showing in the Europa League group-stages, the team’s performance in the top flight has still come in for criticism, with Puel being responsible in many fans’ eyes.
The Saints have scored just 17 goals in 16 home games – only the division’s bottom two have scored fewer goals in front of their own fans – while no team in the top 15 have won fewer home games this term.

And with the brand of football hardly capturing the imagination, it would hardly be a surprise if the goalless draw with Hull goes down as a defining game with Puel now seemingly left a huge uphill battle trying to get the majority of fans behind him.
Here is the best of the reaction…
