The on-loan Liverpool defender has been linked with a move to Southampton this summer.
Southampton’s Dusan Tadic in action with Crystal Palace’s Mamadou Sakho
Speculation linking Southampton with a summer move for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho this summer could not have come at a better time.
Just days after those reports surfaced in the Daily Telegraph, the Frenchman was due at St Mary’s with loan club Crystal Palace, allowing Saints fans to scope him out first hand.
A 3-1 win for Claude Puel’s side suggests that Sakho might not have made the best impression on his prospective new employers – although there are some of a Southampton persuasion who seemed to like what they saw:
Sakho had fallen out of favour under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, and failed to feature for his parent club ahead of his exit for Crystal Palace.
Nevertheless, the Reds are said to want £30 million for the 28-cap France international, which deter suitors such as Palace and Southampton.
Liverpool have, however, been linked with a move for Saints centre-back Virgil van Dijk this summer, and could try to use Sakho as a makeweight in any deal.
