Southampton have been linked with a stunning move for Barcelona forward Paco Alcacer, but face Premier League competition for his signature.
Southampton fans may have been left extremely excited by the news coming from talkSPORT earlier this week that suggested that the Saints are keen on signing Paco Alcacer from Barcelona.
TalkSPORT also suggested that Crystal Palace are also interested in the striker, who wants to leave the Nou Camp having struggled for opportunities since arriving at the club for £26 million last summer.
With Southampton struggling for goals, Alcacer may be the kind of player that Saints fans would love to see arrive at St Mary’s during one of the upcoming windows, and missing out on him may lead to plenty of frustration.
So perhaps it would not be too great a surprise if the Southampton hierarchy think about what they could potentially do to put themselves in the driving seat to land the 24-year-old.
It would not necessarily be a popular option from a Southampton perspective, but perhaps Barcelona could use the Saints’ interest in the forward to try and land one of their own targets in a swap deal.
Marca reported back in May that Barcelona were interested in Oriol Romeu, who came through the ranks at La Masia before leaving for Chelsea in 2011.
Romeu has been fantastic during his time with the Saints, so it would undoubtedly be a surprise if Southampton gave any kind of swap deal the green light.
But if they decided that Alcacar – whose career record is quite impressive – is their number one target but find that Barca have no intention of selling without Romeu heading the other way, then perhaps they may feel that they have a tough decision to make.
