On-loan Bournemouth midfielder Jack Wilshere is reportedly the subject of interest from West Ham United, with the Hammers thought to be preparing a £30 million summer bid for the Arsenal-owned star, according to the Sun.

The 25-year-old has managed to stay relatively injury free during his loan spell at the Vitality Stadium, and has proven that he can be a valuable asset, when given a sustained run in the first-team.

His future at the Emirates seems far from certain, however, with the abundance of midfield options available to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

And the Cherries’ south coast rivals Southampton should challenge the Hammers by attempting to bring Wilshere to St Mary’s in the summer.

Claude Puel currently has a fantastic group of players amongst his squad, but the addition of a ball-playing midfielder of the Arsenal man’s ilk will surely feature highly on the Frenchman’s priority list.

The England international has impeccable ball control in tight spaces, and is renowned for being able to pick out a killer pass.

With Oriol Romeu providing protection for the Saints’ back four, there is definitely room for a more creative-minded midfielder, and Wilshere would fit the bill perfectly.

Whether the Southampton hierarchy would stretch to the £30 million that has been quoted for the on-loan Bournemouth star remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, his presence amongst the Saints side would undoubtedly improve their chances of finishing inside the European qualification spots next term.
