Southampton’s head of recruitment has been tipped to fill Frank McParland’s boots at Rangers, after the Liverpudlian’s acrimonious departure from Ibrox this month.

In an interview with Talksport on Monday, Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger poured cold water on speculation linking Ross Wilson with Rangers’ director of football position.

Rangers are said to be closing in on a new appointment this week, following Frank McParland’s departure alongside manager Mark Warburton this week.

And Wilson has been heavily tipped to land the role, with the Daily Mail reporting last week that the Scot was keen on the idea.

Krueger’s comments, however, suggest Wilson’s departure from Southampton is far from imminent, if at all likely.

“For us, it’s always a compliment,” the Canadian told Talksport when asked about Rangers’ alleged interest. “People always seem to want to come to us to look at our personnel.

“I spoke to Ross last week and we had lunch together and he’s very committed and excited to stay with us.

“But for us, we never believe that everybody needs to stay with us forever.

“When you grow as a club, people will come, people will go and at the moment Ross Wilson is an important part of our group and seems committed to where we are moving.

“It’s a compliment to our football that we are getting looked at, at all different levels.

“But there have been no talks there yet.”

Wilson, who began his career as Falkirk’s head of football development and football administration, previously turned down a role with Rangers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic to pursue opportunities south of the border (BBC).
