Tottenham Hotspur will have a decision to make in attack this summer, as Carlos Vinicius is scheduled to return to Benfica.
The Brazilian is only on loan at Tottenham, and Jose Mourinho will have to figure out whether he is worth keeping long-term.
Vinicius is only backup to Harry Kane, but has scored six goals in 12 appearances for Tottenham, meaning he has shown real promise.
Still, Tottenham are being linked with other strikers, and The Sun claim that Mourinho is ‘desperate’ to sign Southampton star Danny Ings this summer.
The Athletic claim that Southampton are reluctant to discuss a deal with Spurs in particular, even though Ings is so far refusing to sign a new contract.
The 28-year-old has been a prolific goalscorer for the Saints, but now seemingly wants to test himself in the Champions League after a disappointing stint with Liverpool.
Spurs could offer that, and Ings would give Tottenham a proven goalscorer to aid Harry Kane in the final third.
Now though, Southampton CEO Martin Semmens has told BBC Radio Solent that
“The conversations have gone on and we have had talks with Danny, they’ve been 100 per cent professional,” said Semmens. “Danny is very happy here, he wants to stay with the club and we have enjoyed having him.”
“Money is 100 per cent not the issue,’ he said. ‘Danny has put us under no pressure to provide finances that we are not comfortable with. Those rumours are not true.”
“Danny is focused on playing games for us and does not want to talk about his future contract. I think people forget that they are humans. He has a contract with us for 18 months and he will be with us for that time and we will sit down and talk about the future at some time before then.”
“There are no issues. I know everybody is looking for a story but he has a contract with us and we hope he will stay beyond that,” he added.
