Southampton captain Adam Lallana hints Liverpool would attract him?

Southampton captain Adam Lallana has hinted that he would like a move to Liverpool after talking up his dream of playing Champions League football.

The Reds have reportedly tabled a £20 million offer for the 26-year-old, although it is thought that the Saints are holding out for an extra £5 million for their skipper.

Lallana’s fine form last season has been rewarded with a spot in England’s 23-man World Cup squad, and the Three Lions man issued a veiled ‘come and get me’ plea to the after talking up his hopes of turning out in Europe’s premier competition.

Speaking at an event with England sponsors Vauxhall, Lallana said: “I’m ­ambitious. I have aspirations to play in the Champions League.

“Ever since I’ve played ­international football, you realise there’s that other level to play at. It would be great. I feel I’ve come a long way, it’s been a special season, not just for me, but for [Southampton] as a whole.

“I went to a couple of the ­Champions League games last year and the feeling you get, the buzz, it’s an unbelievable atmosphere. It’s definitely a goal of mine to play in the Champions League.”
The Reds are able to offer the attacking midfielder Champions League football following last season’s second-place finish and they will have no doubt have listened carefully to their target’s words.

Lallana enjoyed an impressive campaign last term, scoring nine goals and six assists, and a move to Anfield would certainly give competition to Philippe Coutinho for the side’s role of advanced playmaker.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who signed a new deal on Monday, has stated his intentions to step up his efforts to land his summer targets after resolving his own future.
The Liverpool Echo quotes the Northern Irishman as saying: “We’re still working on signings, the staff behind the scenes, myself, the recruitment team, Ian Ayre – we’re all working hard still in terms of looking to get players in.
“Of course, at the club, where we are now, the signings are complex; they are not all simple signings.

“But we need to strengthen up the squad and that’s something that we’re working hard to do over the next number of weeks.”
