Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl spoke to reporters today, ahead of his side’s clash with Tottenham on Saturday, and admitted that he is slightly concerned by the prospect of his team having three weeks off after this weekend’s game, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The Saints are currently in all sorts of trouble, and they sit in 17th spot in the Premier League table, just two points clear of 18th place Cardiff City.

Hasenhüttl has undoubtedly made a huge impact since taking over at St Mary’s, however, and he has already earned the respect of the Southampton fans.

The Saints will be desperate to beat Tottenham, considering the fact that they don’t play again until March 30th after Saturday’s match, and Hasenhüttl bemoaned the fact that his side will be out of action for so long, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“This is a new situation for me, missing a league game for the cup. To have such a long break during the season is unnatural. We will have everyone here for the first week and then not for the second. The first, we will take a few early steps to Brighton but when they go to their national teams maybe they will forget what we worked on. It doesn’t really make sense.”

Southampton’s scheduled game with Watford on March 16th has had to be rearranged because of FA Cup action, so Hasenhüttl will have plenty of time to work with his players before they head off for international duty – something that most managers crave.

The Austrian is clearly not happy, however, and he will be hoping that the long break does not adversely affect his players.
