According to a report from the Mirror, Southampton are lining up a summer swoop for Red Bull Salzburg’s Amadou Haidara, and if they manage to bring him to St Mary’s, it would be a real statement of intent from the Saints, considering the fact that Tottenham enquired about signing him earlier this year.

According to France Football, Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of the Mali midfield ace.

The French publication claims that Spurs tried to sign the 20-year-old earlier this summer, but were unsuccessful in their enquiries for the RB Salzburg ace.

According to the Mirror, though, Southampton boss Mark Hughes is determined to bring Haidara to the south coast this summer, and is prepared to pay £15 million to secure his services.

Good signing for Southampton?

Considering Tottenham’s reported interest in the 20-year-old, if the Saints win the race for him, it would be a real statement of intent from the south coast club.

Haidara is an orthodox central midfielder by trade, but can also operate in a more deep-lying role as well as in the right midfield position.

Salzburg's Amadou Haidara controls the ball during the Europa League Round of 16 first leg football match between Borussia Dortmund and FC Salzburg on March 8, 2018 in Dortmund.

His contribution in the final third for RB Salzburg last season was really impressive, with eight goals and 10 assists in 55 appearances to his name.

He would be an outstanding signing for Southampton, should they win the race for his signature, and it could turn out to be the addition that takes Mark Hughes’ side to the next level.
