Southampton signed the striker from Birmingham in July and he has impressed for the Saints in pre-season.
Southampton goalkeeper Angus Gunn has spoken of his side’s activity in the summer transfer market, as reported in the Daily Echo.
The Saints ace acknowledged that the club may have not been as busy as other Premier League teams, but sought to highlight the quality they’ve brought in, such as Che Adams.
Southampton’s transfer activity was largely condensed early in the window when Adams, Danny Ings and Moussa Djenepo joined the Saints on 1 July.
Aside from the club’s academy snapping up goalkeeper Tommy Scott earlier in August, there was no activity for the rest of the window, until the deadline-day acquisition of defender Kevin Danso on loan from FC Augsburg.
“We haven’t been as busy as other teams in the transfer marker but we’ve brought in really good quality,” Gunn told the Daily Echo ahead of Southampton’s Premier League opener away at Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
“Che has been massive in pre-season I’m surprised he didn’t get a goal in the first ten minutes on Saturday (in the 2-0 win against Koln) because he has in every other game so far! But he got the assist for the penalty and is a big target for us up front. He’ll be a huge player for us, he fits into the squad and the manager’s style of play really well.”
Adams, one of the Championship’s standout players last season, has joined the Saints from Birmingham City on a five-year-deal for a reported £15million fee, months after the St Mary’s Stadium outfit reportedly first went for him (BBC Sport).
While at St Andrew’s, the 22-year-old striker notched up 38 goals and 13 assists in 123 appearances for the West Midlands club, including 22 goals and six assists in 46 Championship games last term (Transfermarkt).
