Reported Southampton and Burnley transfer target Joakim Maehle says he is incredibly disappointed following a failed deadline day move to Marseille, BT.dk report.
The Denmark international right-back was heavily linked with a summer exit.
Reports from The Sun (7 June, page 61) claimed Burnley were set to bid £10 million for the fullback as the Clarets sought a replacement for Phil Bardsley.

Southampton, meanwhile, made a move for Maehle in January, with the player telling Ekstra Bladet how he was left disappointed not to join the Saints.
Now, the player is outraged over another failed move, this time to Marseille.
“I’m incredibly disappointed with the way they [Genk] handle it. There has been interest many other times where they have stated a resounding no from the start. Whether it has been Southampton, Valencia and Atalanta. I have respected that. I’m just crushed and feel stepped on. It was hard to sleep. I had told my family that it should probably go and that it was just the last thing that was missing. And then they miss it at the last minute because they want more money,” Maehle explained.
According to BT.dk, Genk decided to seek a higher fee with less than an hour remaining in the window and Marseille ultimately pulled the plug.
Maehle’s contract with the Belgian club expires in 2023.
If the player remains unhappy, it’s likely a January move could be on the cards and Genk may feel they can catch a higher fee then when teams are perhaps more desperate.

Southampton may no longer be an option after signing Kyle Walker-Peters. Burnley, however, failed to strengthen their squad and they appear light.
The Clarets have lost their opening three games of the season. January could now be a big month for Sean Dyche’s side as they look to retain their Premier League status.
