Southampton and Burnley have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Ahmed Musa, with the Birmingham Mail reporting the free agent won’t join West Bromwich Albion after all.
Just two days ago, claims coming out of his native Nigeria suggested Sam Allardyce was “very confident” of getting a deal over the line for the 96-cap international.
However, the report did suggest Musa’s move to the Hawthorns depended on whether West Brom would be able to get £30,000-a-week Kamil Grosicki out the door.
And, with a potential switch to Legia Warsaw for the seldom-seen Pole seemingly hitting the buffers, it seems Allardyce has no choice but to walk away from a man he’s wanted to sign since his West Ham days.
It’s no secret Musa, who ripped up his contract with Al Nassr in October, is desperate for a second chance in England.
The former Leicester City flop recently underwent fitness tests at West Brom’s training ground, while his agent suggested a potential return to CSKA Moscow had been placed on the back burner as Musa prioritised the Premier League.
And just because West Brom have pulled down the shutters doesn’t mean the 28-year-old is destined to be disappointed.
