Everton suffered another defeat to Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
Interim manager David Unsworth lost his fifth game of seven since taking over on a temporary basis from Ronald Koeman, suffering losses to Chelsea, Leicester City, Lyon, Atalanta and now Southampton.
Goals from Dusan Tadic, Steven Davis and a brace from target man Charlie Austin saw the Saints earn a comfortable win, just days after Everton had been annihilated 5-1 in the Europa League by Italian side Atalanta.
Another loss for Unsworth sees Everton sit in 16th place in the Premier League and just two points above the relegation zone, with the former Toffees left-back looking increasingly unlikely to earn the job on a full-time basis.
Posting on Twitter in reaction to the defeat, former Blues goalkeeper Southall claimed his former side were missing three things – “no goal threat, no spark, no confidence” and stated that Everton need “direction and stability” to turn things around.
Everton have seriously struggled to score the goals required to maintain pace with their Premier League and Europa League opponents this season, after selling Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United in the summer.
The resurgence of Oumar Niasse has been a saving grace for the Toffees, but he was suspended on Saturday. Blues fans will be hoping his return can help Everton beat West Ham on Wednesday night at Goodison Park.
