South-West Sydney director Sam Krslovic has suggested that Aston Villa midfielder Mile Jedinak ticks all the boxes.

In comments reported by the official website of the A-League, South-West Sydney director Sam Krslovic has confirmed that he wants to enter talks with Mile Jedinak next month as they look to sign the Aston Villa star.

According to the report, Jedinak is out of contract with the Championship side at the end of the season. And given how little he has featured – his last appearance came back in September – it would surprise few supporters if his deal with the Villans was allowed to expire.

And it appears that he could be offered the chance to return to Australia a decade after he left Central Coast Mariners. South-West Sydney have been announced as one of two new expansion teams in the top flight, and Krslovic has suggested that the club want to make Jedinak their first signing.

“Mile and I go back a long way. The chances of him coming back are strengthened by this bid,” he said, as reported by the A-League’s official website.

“He’s out of contract [at Aston Villa] at the end of June, so we’re allowed to discuss with him post January. We’ll have a discussion and see where he fits.”

Interestingly, it does appear that it is not necessarily going to be a simple deal for the new Sydney side to complete. While they have been given the green light to join the league, their first season will be 2020/21 – unlike Western Melbourne who will join ahead of the next campaign.

It is not clear what impact the later introduction into the league will have on Sydney’s hopes of signing Jedinak, but perhaps it opens the door for the veteran midfielder to head elsewhere.

It would not be a surprise if a move back to Australia appealed to Jedinak. But given the stage of his career he finds himself at, he would surely be reluctant to miss an entire season by entering immediately into an agreement with Sydney.
