Tottenham Hotspur forward Heung-min Son is all set to be one of South Korea’s wildcards at the Olympic Games this summer.
The South Korea under-23 coach Shin Tae-yong has been speaking about the call-up for the Spurs star this week in the Global Post.
He has spoken of how Son could be an inspiration to the young players in the Olympic squad ahead of the competition in Rio de Janeiro.
He stated:
“Our young players should feel comfortable around him and Son also should boost confidence for his teammates.
“If he mingles with our squad, there will be a big synergy.”
Reports recently suggested that Tottenham were prepared to sell Son this summer. The Telegraph reported Tottenham were prepared to sell Son if they could recoup the £22 million they spent to bring him in from Bayer Leverkusen last summer. Son himself has refuted the claims.
However, Son remains a massive hero in his home nation and his presence at the Olympic Games should be massive for South Korea.
He played 40 times last season but only managed to score eight goals – so there is justification to the doubt over his future. A good showing in Rio might be what is needed to convince Spurs of his talents.
