South Africa kept their World Cup hopes alive with a 1-1 draw against Czech Republic last Thursday. Michal Sadilek put the Czechs ahead early in Atlanta, before Teboho Mokoena equalised with an 83rd-minute penalty.

The result mattered because both teams had lost their opening matches. Another defeat would have left Bafana Bafana close to elimination, but the late equaliser kept them in the fight for the round of 32.

Beyond that, the point achieved was followed by a major reward for the squad and staff.

African soccer journalist Micky Jnr reported that South Africa’s players and technical team were gifted luxury jewelry valued at over $50,000 each through a partnership with Icebox.

Icebox is a major name in the luxury market, especially for diamond watches, custom jewelry and celebrity clients from sport and entertainment.

That made the reward stand out even more. South Africa did not win the match, but their response against Czech Republic was enough to keep belief alive.

South Africa can still reach the World Cup knockouts

The draw gave Bafana Bafana their first point of the tournament.

They now sit level with Czech Republic on one point, with one group match still to play.

South Africa face South Korea next Wednesday, June 24th. A win would put them in position to reach the next stage, and they could even finish second in the group, depending on the result of Czechia vs Mexico.
