Portsmouth are on the verge of beating Wrexham in the race to sign Carlisle United midfielder Owen Moxon ahead of the transfer deadline.

HITC understands Portsmouth have won the battle to sign Carlisle’s highly-rated midfielder Owen Moxon.

The 26-year-old is out-of-contract in the summer and has turned down the chance to sign a new deal at Brunton Park.

We understand that the likes of Blackpool, Wrexham and Stockport County were keen on signing Moxon this month.

Pompey have sealed the deal though, and sources tell us that Moxon is due for medical with Pompey on Wednesday.

Who is Portsmouth-bound Owen Moxon?

Moxon hails from Carlisle and started his career in the club’s youth ranks before being released at the age of just 16.

Moxon decided to move north of the border, joining Queen of the South and then signing for Gretna on loan in 2016.

Annan Athletic came calling in 2017 and that’s where Moxon really kicked on, scoring eight goals from midfield in his final season with the club.

Moxon was given his dream move back to hometown club Carlisle in 2022 and he was simply exceptional last season.

The 26-year-old played a huge role in helping Carlisle win promotion from League Two, winning the play-off final against Stockport County.

Moxon is now poised to make a big move, joining a promotion-chasing Portsmouth side who could be a Championship club come May.

Pompey sit top of League One with 60 points from 30 games but have played more than all of their rivals, such as Bolton Wanderers, Derby County and Peterborough United.

John Mourinho may feel that he needs additions to fend off the chasing pack and Moxon will now arrive to add energy in midfield at Fratton Park.
