- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga is set to have his loan with Bundesliga side FC Augsburg terminated this month, HITC Football understands.
Since moving to the Bundesliga side on loan in the summer, Japhet Tanganga has yet to play a minute of first team football for the German side and it now looks as if Tottenham Hotspur are ready to recall the Englishman.
Shortly after joining the Bundesliga side, the Englishman suffered a nasty injury and has struggled to get a foothold in the first team ever since.
Tanganga originally broke through under Jose Mourinho with the Portuguese boss impressed with his defensive attributes and his willingness to play anywhere for the team.

What next for the defender
Sources have told HITC Football that the England international is now working with Tottenham to explore options for him with a switch to the EFL Championship now on the cards, although there is also interest in France.
After shining in the 2019-2020 season, Tanganga then was in and out of the team under Antonio Conte and Ryan Mason and Ange Postecoglou saw no place for the English defender in his setup.
As mentioned his loan move has been hampered by the injury problems he has as well as Augsburg’s decision to sack their former manager Enrico Maaßen after just one win from its opening seven games in the league.
The new manager of Augsburg Jess Thorup seemingly didn’t consider the defender to be part of his plans and as a result, the Spurs hierarchy will bring the 24-year-old back before considering their next move.
Tanganga’s quality
Despite the defender being in and out of the Tottenham team since his breakthrough campaign in the 2019-2020 season, his qualities would make him a valuable asset to any EFL Championship side.
Former Spurs boss Mourinho handed the defender his Premier League debut against Liverpool and the Portuguese boss was full of praise for the defender.
“The kid has reason to be very happy with his level,” Mourinho told the Evening Standard, “not with the result obviously, but with his first game in the Premier League.
“It couldn’t be a bigger one (game) and he did it amazingly.”
A move away from Spurs looks to be in the offing for Tanganga.
