Rangers have now reached an agreement with Fluminense and Jefte over the transfer of the left-back, HITC Football understands, with his medical also likely this weekend.

The 20-year-old is currently plying his trade on loan at Cypriot First Division leaders APOEL FC. It is also in Cyprus where Rangers spotted Jefte and have now moved to clinch a transfer from parent team, Fluminense. Jefte agreed to join APOEL in a season-long transfer last July.

Sources have confirmed to HITC Football that Rangers have agreed to terms with both, Jefte and Fluminense, about his transfer. But the Ibrox giants must now wait for APOEL to release the Brazilian from his loan switch. Yet the Nicosia natives are expected to release Jefte soon.

Jefte is likely to undergo his Rangers medical this weekend

Once APOEL and Fluminense have agreed Jefte’s release, HITC Football further expects the defender to undergo his medical at Rangers. It is likely to take place during the weekend and end the Glasgow club’s search for a left-back. The Gers have decided that Jefte is the one.

APOEL also did not include Jefte in their squad this Friday evening as Ricardo Sa Pinto’s side beat Nea Salamis 4-0 as he prepares to head to Glasgow. The former Brazil U18 international has started in 14 of his 18 appearances during their First Division matches so far this season.

Rangers are also expected to move either Borna Barisic or Ridvan Yilmaz on before the mid-season window slams shut, following Jefte’s transfer from Fluminense. Gers gaffer Philippe Clement is prepared to let one of the two defenders leave with Jefte set to take their place.

Barisic has been at Ibrox since August 2018 and the 31-year-old has helped Rangers win the Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup. Yilmaz also helped to the Gers’ League Cup success earlier this season following the 22-year-old’s transfer to Glasgow in July 2022.
