Tottenham have left some in Germany baffled as they consider making Tim Steidten their new Director of Football.
Spurs are on the lookout for a new Sporting Director after Fabio Paratici was forced to leave Tottenham, following FIFA’s decision to ban the Italian for 30 months due to false accounting.
Daniel Levy has identified Lee Dykes of Brentford – according to Fabrizio Romano – and also Tim Steidten, with the latter’s inclusion on Tottenham‘s shortlist causing come confusion in his homeland.
What’s the story?
Well – according to the Telegraph – sources in Germany are surprised that Tottenham are thinking about appointing Steidten to be their new Director of Football.
It is said that the German is more suited to an administration role rather than anything to do with footballing matters.

In this instance, it is difficult to say what sources in Germany are suggesting Steidten is best at, although an administration role in any other industry usually includes handling software, equipment and technical procedures.
Effectively, the Telegraph’s sources in Germany are suggesting that the 44-year-old has little suitability to a role in which footballing decisions need to be made, such as transfers and the hiring of a new manager.
With Tottenham fans already losing – or in fact, completely out of – faith in Levy’s decision making, this is surely a difficult update for supporters to hear.
Forget Steidten: Tottenham must push to hire Dykes
With question marks over Steidten now emerging, we feel Spurs should focus on trying to bring Dykes to N17.
The 39-year-old has played a key role in helping Brentford break into the Premier League’s top ten, signing diamonds such as Ivan Toney for just £5m.
Brentford’s No.17 has scored 20 Premier League goals this season, form which earned him a maiden England call-up.
Dykes appears to be a very switched-on Sporting Director attuned with the modern game.
In September, he told The Athletic: “We have our own way of working, we’re open-minded, looking to innovate, to out-think the opposition, not out-spend them. We back our recruitment, our coaching, and our fantastic manager.”
Dykes has implemented a streamlined, clear vision at Brentford, something Tottenham desperately need with many of their decisions not appearing to follow any sort of pattern – the differing playing styles of Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte are examples of that.
Hopefully, Tottenham can find a new Director of Football soon, or they will waste valuable time in the summer transfer market.
