Paul Mitchell wants to move to Newcastle United to replace Dan Ashworth, who is on his way to Manchester United, HITC understands.

Sources have told HITC that Paul Mitchell wants to take charge at Newcastle United. The Premier League club are looking at their options to replace Dan Ashworth.

Dan Ashworth set to leave Newcastle United for Manchester United

Ashworth’s move to Manchester United as Sporting Director should be confirmed in the coming weeks, as talks continue between the Red Devils and Newcastle.

HITC revealed earlier this week that Newcastle placed Ashworth on gardening leave in February after he told the Magpies that he wanted to move to Old Trafford.

Newcastle are demanding around £20 million to facilitate Ashworth’s switch to Old Trafford, but, as it stands, Manchester United are only willing to pay less than half of that.

HITC can now reveal that Mitchell is keen on replacing Ashworth at Newcastle. The former AS Monaco supremo has targeted a move to St James’ Park as he looks set to return to England.

Mitchell, 42, worked at Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur before heading to Europe with the Red Bull organisation before his stint in Monaco.

Newcastle are not having the best of seasons. Eddie Howe’s side are not going to end up in the top four of the Premier League table and may not even get into the top half.

The Magpies are 10th in the league table with 40 points from 28 matches. They are seven points behind Manchester United, who are sixth.

Newcastle, who lost to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this week, will take on Manchester City away from home at the Etihad Stadium in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday.
