Graeme Souness has heaped praise on Eddie Howe for the splendid job he has done at Newcastle United so far.

Howe has resurrected a Newcastle side set for relegation

When the former Bournemouth boss was appointed as the manager to headline Newcastle’s project post-takeover, the club were languishing at 19th place in the Premier League table.

However, Howe’s excellent talent ID coupled with how he has blooded in a tactical identity into the side ensured that they instantly became one of the toughest sides to face in the country.

With Newcastle investing astutely in the transfer market, the additions of Bruno Guimares, Nick Pope and Dan Burn to name a few have certainly helped the English tactician’s cause.

But it has to be emphasised that considering it seemed as if the Magpies were destined for relegation, the fact that the 44-year old guided this very group of players to a 9th place finish last season was as impressive as managerial achievements go.

In the 2022/2023 campaign as well, Newcastle are sitting pretty at 3rd place, a mere two points behind defending champions Manchester City, which speaks volumes of the job Howe has done at St. James’ Park.

Souness raves about Howe’s brilliance at Newcastle

Graeme Souness singled out Eddie Howe for praise on talkSPORT for how he has turned things around at Newcastle United.

“Yeah, the manager at Newcastle [Eddie Howe] deserves enormous credit because Simon [Jordan] mentions they have spent £200 million quid but I say here all the time that you’ve got a group of players and it’s a manager’s responsibility to get the most from that group of players.”

Souness continued, “Players, there’s one in particular in [Miguel] Almiron and then Joelinton. It’s up to the manager to get a tune out of the players.”

“Well, he’s made those players all of a sudden look like real Premier League players, where if they were players that became available, no one would have taken them. Now they’re very different players and that has to be down to the manager and the manager only.”

Graeme Souness’ views remain the general consensus, as there is no denying the stupendous rise of Newcastle spearheaded by Eddie Howe.
