Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Former Liverpool and Rangers midfielder Graeme Souness has suggested in The Times that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli is not yet ready for Real Madrid.

Alli has been linked with a move to Madrid, with The Express reporting last month that the Spanish giants are lining up a £50 million move for him in the summer transfer window.

The midfielder is one of the best young players in the Premier League and is in good form for Tottenham at the moment.

The 20-year-old could develop into a world-class footballer in the coming years.

Former Liverpool and Rangers midfielder Souness, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that Alli is not yet ready for Madrid.

“Alli is an elegant, goalscoring, attacking midfielder, who is full of running and has the potential to be very good,” Souness wrote in The Times. “He’s still only 20 and we hand out greatness too readily today, so let’s leave it at that for now. This will stand him in good stead going forward, but he’s still at least two or three seasons from being ready for Real Madrid.

“He would have to be the outstanding player in the Premier League, a game-changer at the level of Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and Gareth Bale, the other players who have left for Spain’s big two in recent years.

“That’s what they are looking for. He has the potential, but it’s too early to say he will be that good.”

Alli is far from the finished article, but his progress over the past two or so years has been superb.

It is clear that the Tottenham youngster has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the world.

As Souness suggests, it is too early for Alli to move to Madrid now. It would not be easy for the 20-year-old to play regularly for Los Blancos rightaway, as he would face a lot of competition.
