Jurgen Klopp is coming under increasing pressure at Liverpool following Sunday’s 4-1 loss to Tottenham.
Graeme Souness believes Liverpool must keep manager Jurgen Klopp despite a disappointing start to the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.
Liverpool are way down in ninth position and already three points adrift of the Champions League places, winning only three of their nine league games against Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Leicester.
Doubt has begun to surround the future of Klopp at Anfield, but Reds icon Souness stated that Liverpool must remain with the former Borussia Dortmund manager.
Quoted by Sky Sports Transfer Centre (1.27pm, Thursday), Souness also claimed that he would take a top-four place for Liverpool right now, discarding a potential Premier League title challenge.
“Champions League, top-four place? I would take it right now,” Souness said. “I would sign up right now for that, if I was a Liverpool manager. There’s an element of doubt over Philippe Coutinho, the vulnerability at the back.
“You’ve got to stick with Klopp. I think he’s a good fit for Liverpool, he’s a passionate man who wears his heart on his sleeve, you’ve got to give him a go and I don’t think Liverpool are that sort of club (to sack him).”
Liverpool were torn apart by Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham last Sunday, with Son Heung-Min, Dele Alli and a brace from Harry Kane ensuring a miserable 4-1 loss for the Reds.
The Merseyside giants will be hoping to bounce back on Saturday afternoon as they face newly-promoted Huddersfield at Anfield, which will see Klopp reunite with his former Dortmund assistant David Wagner.
Three points for Klopp and Liverpool would go a long way to blowing away the critics, as well as moving up the table towards the Champions League places.
