Leeds United won 2-1 at Rotherham on Saturday to move fifth in the Championship.
Souleymane Doukara has told LUTV that Leeds United boss Garry Monk stressed the importance of possession midway through Saturday’s 2-1 win at Rotherham.
Leeds coasted into a 2-0 half-time lead against the Millers, with Chris Wood and Doukara doing the damage as Monk’s side looked in cruise control.
To make matters even better, the Whites were also up against 10 men for most of the match following Peter Odemwingie’s red card midway through the opening half.
Nevertheless, the visitors struggled in the second half and Rotherham pulled one back on 86 minutes, but Leeds pulled off a solid defensive display in the final stages as Monk and co fell over the line and moved fifth in the Championship.
Asked by LUTV what the half-time message was, Doukara said: “To keep the ball. The gaffer asked us to keep the ball and try and play. They were a man down so we needed to keep possession.”
On the defending, he added: “Everybody has to defend because we know the Championship – especially when they counter-attack, we know they can score goals even with one man down so we needed to stay focused.”
The Whites now visit Liverpool in midweek for a League Cup quarter-final at Anfield, before turning their attention toward another huge clash on Saturday.
Aston Villa, who have won four and drawn three of Steve Bruce’s seven matches in charge, are next to visit Elland Road in another big test for Leeds, who went down 2-0 to Newcastle United in Yorkshire last Sunday afternoon.
