The 25-year-old is en vogue with Leeds United fans at the moment.

Resurgent Leeds United striker Souleymane Doukara has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that he did not consider leaving the Whites this past summer.

The 25-year-old is definitely making the right kind of noises at Leeds again following a very low-key season on the whole.

He was presumed to be Garry Monk’s fourth-choice striker at the beginning of the campaign, behind Chris Wood, Marcus Antonsson and Kemar Roofe in the pecking order.

But he has done his first-team prospects the world of good in recent days; first by impressing from the start in Tuesday’s League Cup triumph over Norwich City, before coming off the bench to play a huge role in Saturday’s home win over Burton Albion.

Doukara, who replaced Roofe in the second half, won an 83rd-minute penalty which Wood smashed home, and the Frenchman then added a second in the dying stages for what was his first goal in four Championship games – all of which came as a substitute.

In fact, the former Catania man, who joined Leeds in 2014, has not started a league game for the Whites since way back in March and, with the players Monk signed during the summer, few would have blamed him had he tried to secure a move away from the Yorkshire club.

“No, never. I knew my time would come when I’d have my opportunity and that I’d get my chance,” he told The Yorkshire Evening Post, when asked if he considered leaving Monk and co during the summer.

“You need to stay focused, work hard and come back strong. I know I can do something and everyone in the squad is pushing me to the best level.”

Doukara coming into a bit of form can only have a positive impact on Leeds, who sit one point behind Bristol City in the fourth and last playoff place at the moment.
