Gary Lineker appears to have sided with Mesut Ozil over his situation at Arsenal.

It’s increasingly possible that the 32-year-old has played his last game for the Gunners after being left out of Mikel Arteta’s Premier League squad this week.

Ozil hasn’t kicked a ball for Arsenal in any competition since March and it’s likely that the £350,000-a-week star never will again.

The former Real Madrid star, who joined the North Londoners in 2013, posted a statement on Twitter this afternoon in response to Arteta’s decision.

Ozil claimed that he was ‘deeply disappointed’ and suggested that his loyalty to the Emirates Stadium club had not been ‘reciprocated’.

This is a divisive player among Arsenal supporters because while some have been urging Arteta to recall him in recent months, others have backed the Spaniard’s firm stance.

But it looks like Lineker is sympathetic toward Ozil’s situation, claiming on Twitter that it’s ‘soul destroying’ when you’re deprived of the chance to play football.

The former Germany international has scored 33 goals and set up 54 in 184 Premier League appearances for Arsenal, but four assists since Arsene Wenger left the club in 2018 is a damning illustration that his form has dipped in a big way since the Frenchman – who signed him seven years ago – departed.
