Newcastle United know that they must strengthen their squad this month in order to boost their chances of Premier League survival, and the club are reportedly considering bringing in defender Pape Souare on loan from Crystal Palace.

As reported by the Croydon Advertiser, Palace want to secure a deal for Souare, who is eager to play regularly having worked hard to return to full fitness after being involved in a car crash in 2016.

Souare has featured for Palace in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup this season but has yet to play in the Premier League and if he joined Newcastle the Senegal international would have an opportunity to establish himself as the regular left-back for Rafael Benitez’s side.

Prior to his injuries, which included a fractured thigh and jaw, Souare had been performing impressively for Palace as he provided a frequent attacking threat and also demonstrated that he is dependable defensively.

Left-back has certainly been a problem position for Newcastle this season, with Javier Manquillo, who is much better suited to playing on the right side of the defence, having struggled.

Benitez can also call upon Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara, but Souare is a superior option and if he can regain top form then the Palace player could prove to be an inspired loan signing for Newcastle.
