According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld wants parity with the top earners at White Hart Lane as contract talks rumble on.
Alderwiereld, 28, joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth just £11.4million (The Guardian) back in the summer of 2015, and he has proved to be one of their top bargain.
The Belgian centre back has renewed his partnership with international team-mate and former Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen, making Spurs one of the most impressive defensive units in the Premier League.
Alderweireld is arguably the finest defender in England – and he unsurprisingly wants paying as such, according to a report from the London Evening Standard earlier today.
It’s claimed that Alderweireld, who currently earns around £50,000-a-week, now wants parity with top earners Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane, meaning Alderweireld is looking to double his money at White Hart Lane.
Alderweireld’s current deal includes a £25million release clause that can be activated in 2019, and whilst chairman Daniel Levy will hope to agree a new, revised contract with Alderweireld, he may have to dig deep to do it.

With reports of Alderweireld’s demands breaking, Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to offer their views, with many urging Tottenham to pay Alderweireld whatever he wants.
Some urged Levy to ‘sort it out’ as Spurs look to tie down yet another key player to a new deal, with many claiming that he is just as important to Mauricio Pochettino’s side Lloris, Kane and Dele Alli are.
