Well, at least Rangers tried.
Steven Gerrard’s side are on the verge of lifting the Premiership title on Saturday when the Gers will officially be crowned champions.
Rangers have blown Celtc out of the water this season.
Not only has it been one to remember because the light Blues wrecked their Old Firm rivals’ 10-in-a-row bid, but it was also their first title for a decade – and 55th time winning the league overall.
But with the landscape being what it is, and Rangers playing in front of an empty Ibrox all season long, fans of the Glasgow club have been urged by the club in a statement this afternoon to celebrate in their own community and respect government guidelines with regards to the coronavirus.
Police Scotland have officially warned the Union Bears’ fan group to abandon their planned march from Ibrox to George’s Square in celebration of the triumph.
Here’s how Rangers fans on Twitter reacted to their club’s plea to avoid mass gatherings this weekend:
It’s pretty obvious that this call will fall on deaf ears.
The coronavirus battle is far from won, despite 27 percent of the UK being full vaccinated now, but you can understand the supporters’ pining to celebrate.
Being forced to stay away from Ibrox during such a triumphant season is hard enough, but denying them the right to mark the occasion with one another was always going to be a difficult thing to implement.
