Carney Chukwuemeka‘s move to Chelsea from Aston Villa hasn’t gone down well with Lee Hendrie.
Earlier this week, the Stamford Bridge outfit revealed on Twitter that they had agreed a fee with Aston Villa for the 18-year-old starlet.
According to Sky Sports, that fee is said to be around £20 million.
This morning, Chelsea confirmed on Twitter that they had officially signed the Bodymoor Heath prodigy in a six-year deal.
Chukwuemeka was omitted from Steven Gerrard’s pre-season tour and there’s been suggestions that the youngster wants senior football as soon as possible.
And Hendrie, a former Aston Villa player, is stunned that the teenager has signed for Chelsea if first-team opportunities were his priority.
Here’s how the Sky Sports pundit reacted on Twitter:
On the surface, it does seem questionable to join Chelsea from Aston Villa if he is hell-bent on playing senior football as quick as possible because, well, there are more obstacles in West London than in the Midlands.
Then again, it’s plausible that he’s been given certain assurances from manager Thomas Tuchel that he’ll get opportunities to impress.
The player was said to have been attracted to the prospect of joining Borussia Dortmund in light of Jude Bellingham’s rise to being one of Europe’s best midfielders, despite being only 19.
Even still, coming through at Chelsea is likely to be a little more difficult and it’ll be fascinating to see how he fares.
