Leeds United put out their biggest statement of intent yet when they beat Championship leaders, Leicester City 3-1 at Elland Road on Friday night.

The gap between Daniel Farke’s side and Leicester City is now just six points and it has opened up the title race when many least expected it.

But that game had its talking points, including Robbie Savage being annoyed at the fact that the away team, at 1-0 up, had a goal wrongly chalked off for offside.

Patson Daka was the man who scored the goal, with Leeds United then going on to secure their comeback, including goals from substitute Conor Roberts, teenage sensation Archie Gray and the icing on the cake from Patrick Bamford.

Whilst Robbie Savage proceeded to moan at the ‘ridiculous’ call to disallow Leicester’s goal and whether the Yorkshire side were ‘lucky’, as he told 606.

His comments were quickly shut down by Chris Sutton who told him that he was a ‘sore loser’ and Leeds would have still gone on to win ‘3-2’.

This is how the conversation unfolded between the duo about that controversial moment during that top-of-the-table clash.

“What a run they are on,” said Sutton after Leeds made it nine Championship wins on the bounce.

Robbie Savage then asked: “Do you think they were lucky (against Leicester City)? The second goal? That’s a goal, that’s a goal.”

Sutton responded: “I don’t think they were lucky. I thought they deserved to win. What an atmosphere at Elland Road. What a brilliant football stadium.”

But Savage wouldn’t let off: “I can’t believe that goal was disallowed, it’s ridiculous. It’s onside. The header, I can’t remember who the Leicester player was who scored, but he is onside. The ball hits the crossbar, goes back, hits the Leeds defender. It should have been a goal.

Sutton then told him: “A bit of a sore loser. They would have lost 3-2.”

Can Leeds United win the Championship?

The last time Leeds tasted defeat was back in December when they were beaten at West Brom.

At the time, they were a staggering 17 points behind Leicester, who were running away with things and pushing for record points.

But now they must look over their shoulders because Leeds, only six points behind, are hunting them down and surely looking to win the league outright.

There is no doubt the team have the capability to do that, and in this pressure cooker of a promotion race, the more Leeds look up, the bigger gap they might just put between themselves and third-placed Ipswich Town.

The Tractor boys just aren’t going away and are now level on points with their promotion rivals, but Farke’s men boast a much better goal difference.
