Sorba Thomas once had the disappointment of being let go by West Ham United – but now he’s set for a debut on the international stage.
Thomas, 22, joined Huddersfield Town from Boreham Wood in January having shown real promise in non-league action.
The winger now leads the Championship for assists this season, recording six in just 10 appearances having made a blistering start to the season.
Thomas won the Championship Player of the Month award for August having excelled with Huddersfield.
Thomas let go by West Ham
Thomas was once on the books at West Ham. Born in Newham, West Ham were the local club for Thomas, and he spent his formative years there.
Not everybody coming through the West Ham youth setup can become a club icon like Mark Noble or even Declan Rice, and Thomas was released at 16.
Thomas then had to go into non-league with Boreham Wood, but is shining in the Championship.
It was a long way back up for Thomas after his West Ham release, but his journey is reaping big rewards now.
Wales give Thomas a first call-up
Thomas has been so good in the Championship that Wales have now called him up.
Thomas was also eligible for Sierra Leone, but has picked Wales given that his mother was born in Newport.
From the scrapheap after his West Ham release to the cusp of an international debut and an award-winner in the Championship, Thomas is showing that the Hammers may not have realised what they had all those years ago.
