Magpies legend Alan Shearer spoke exclusively to the Chronicle, and highlighted the need for Mike Ashley to sell up and leave Newcastle as something that will be of paramount importance to their chances of enjoying a successful second half to their season.

Shearer, who scored 206 goals for the Toon, spoke exclusively to the Chronicle, and shared his belief that Ashely needs to sell up sooner rather and later, for the benefit of Newcastle United:

“That’s what everyone hopes and if you’re a Newcastle fan, that is what needs to happen because this has been dragging on for a while now. Mike Ashley has made it clear he wants to sell and doesn’t want to be at Newcastle so the sooner it happens the better for everyone connected to Newcastle.”

Now would be the ideal time for Ashley to sell up. At least then Rafa Benitez would have a clear idea as to how much money he has to spend this month.

That appears to be no closer to happening than it was a few months ago, however.
