‘Soon on his way’: Fabrizio Romano says Balogun is close to leaving on loan

Fabrizio Romano has stated that Arsenal talent Folarin Balogun will soon sign for Stade de Reims on loan, with the 21-year-old striker set to jet off to France in the coming days.

Taking to Twitter, the Italian journalist posted that a full agreement has been reached and completed between the two sides, with Balogun set to sign for Reims on loan for the season in what could be an exciting move for the Hale End academy graduate.

Balogun spent the second half of last season on loan at Middlesbrough, and with Arsenal signing Gabriel Jesus this summer and Eddie Nketiah penning a long-term deal, loaning out the England U-21 striker makes a lot of sense for the north London side, especially to a club like Reims.

The Ligue 1 side have this summer lost star striker Hugo Ekitike to PSG, with the teenager joining the French giants on loan with an obligation to buy next year, and Balogun is a smart replacement for Reims, who have an incredible record at developing young players.

Indeed, the French top-flight, overall, is considered by many as one of Europe’s best divisions for young players to play regular minutes and to develop their game, and Balogun signing for Reims on loan for the season will be perfect for the Arsenal talent’s promising future.

With Balogun hardly featuring for Arsenal in pre-season and Jesus and Nketiah stealing the spotlight, it makes a lot of sense why the striker has again been allowed to go out on loan, and signing for Reims could be a masterstroke of a decision from the club if the forward becomes a regular in Ligue 1.

Balogun has always shown signs of becoming a top striker, and heading out to France to play for Reims for the season will arguably be the best test yet that the Arsenal youngster has what it takes to become a member of Mikel Arteta’s plans in the future.

Indeed, the Gunners thought tooth and nail to keep Balogun at the club back in 2021, and the forward heading out to France for the season could be the loan move the England U-21 star needs to show everyone how deadly he can be in front of goal when given the chance to play.
