Son’s development should tempt Spurs target Tah to follow same path

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah this summer, but may have to pay £35 million to make a deal happen.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror over the weekend, Tottenham are keeping a keen eye on Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah as they continue to brace themselves in case Toby Alderweireld looks to leave this summer.

The Mirror reports that the Belgian’s departure from the Premier League side is looking likely with Spurs ready to sell after failing to agree a new deal with the former Atletico Madrid ace.

And the Mirror adds that a move for £35 million-rated Tah may be on the cards if they do sell Alderweireld as the 22-year-old continues to prove hugely impressive in the Bundesliga.

And while Tah may be reluctant to make the move given how important he currently is to Leverkusen’s side, perhaps he should look at the development that has been made by a former teammate who made the move in 2015 that Tah may now be offered.

The centre-back’s league debut for Leverkusen came in the same game that Son Heung-min appeared for the club for the final time before moving to the Premier League for £22 million – fee reported by the Guardian.

It was a slow start to life in England for the South Korean as he managed just four goals in the top flight during his first season at White Hart Lane. However, since then, he has gone on to become one of Mauricio Pochettino’s most important players having stepped up several gears since that first campaign.

The winger has scored 24 goals in the league since the start of last season and has found the back of the net three times in the Champions League this term to take his tally to 15 in all competitions.

While they were only briefly teammates, Tah would be forgiven for keeping an occasional eye on Son’s fortunes. And now that Spurs are reportedly waiting in the wings to make a potential bid for the youngster, it should perhaps be Son’s frightening development which tempts Tah to seriously consider heading down the same route.
