In the midst of Kalvin Phillips joining Manchester City, Leeds United have completed a deal to sign Darko Gyabi from the Premier League champions – prompting Leeds target Sonny Perkins and a handful of Leeds players to react.

Phillips completed a permanent £42million move to City, with £3million also likely to arrive at Elland Road in add-ons. Moments after that deal was announced, Leeds made an announcement of their own – in 18-year-old Gyabi.

The Athletic report that Leeds have spent around £5million to lure the England youth international to Elland Road. It is likely that Gyabi will instantly join first-team training, but will play more regularly for the Under-21 side.

Gyabi took to Instagram on Monday to underline his delight at swapping the Premier League champions for Leeds. A similar player to Phillips, he likes to pick the ball up from deep – but is more of a ball-carrier.

Leeds have completed Gyabi deal: Perkins and Leeds players react

There is plenty of reason to boast excitement as a Leeds fan, regarding the signing of Gyabi. Thought of highly among those at Manchester City, Gyabi is one of the stand-out players to have come through the City academy.

So much so, last season he was afforded two senior outings by Pep Guardiola. Quite the feat, to break into a senior side with glittering talent in every position. So, Leeds have got themselves a gem in the midfielder.

Perkins, who saw his West Ham contract expire last month, is a target for Leeds – and he wished Gyabi well at Leeds. Others to react include Morten Spencer, Lew Bate, Nohan Kenneh and Dani van den Heuvel.
