Son Heung-min has admitted to Tottenham Hotspur’s official website that his second goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Middlesbrough shocked even him.
Tottenham maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League season by edging out the North-East outfit at The Riverside Stadium yesterday.
Two first-half goals from the South Korean did the damage for Spurs, who have won four and drawn two of their first six games in England’s top flight.
The 24-year-old’s second goal was extra special, as Son left Victor Valdes with no chance by finding the top corner from an angle.
Speaking to the Lilywhites’ website, Son, a £22 million signing from Bayer Leverkusen 13 months ago, says that even he was shocked by scoring such a goal.
“I shocked myself for the second goal! I train every day for this (type of) shot, I lost the ball but got it back and took the shot.”
Son netted four Premier League goals in the entire 2015-16 campaign, but the ex-Leverkusen forward already has four this season and he seems set to obliterate last season’s total.
Tottenham fans will be delighted. Not only is Son proving himself a very capable goalscorer, but he is also a likeable figure in the Premier League.
