Spurs made it two defeats from two home Champions League games by losing to Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday night.
Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min told reporters after the defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday that he and his teammates “are not machines”, as quoted by the Mirror.
Spurs suffered a 1-0 defeat to the German side in this week’s Champions League fixture, a result which leaves their European campaign in jeopardy.
Facing group leaders Monaco away from home next up, Spurs are third in their group, four points behind the French side and now two points behind Leverkusen with just two games remaining.
Spurs have now not won since 2 October, a run of six games in all competitions, and much has been made of their dramatic loss of form.
Speaking after the Bayer defeat, Son admitted that the players are finding it difficult to recapture their form of earlier in the season and stressed that they “are not machines”.
The Korean star said, via the Mirror: “It’s very difficult. We want to try to play every game well, it’s true, but we are not machines. Some days, everyone plays not good. We tried to play well, we’re just disappointed.
“Maybe confidence is low in front of goal, maybe, it is. I think we have had great chances in every game and it’s also a bit unlucky. We have to accept that it is three goals [scored] in six games and we have to try to score. When we play, we don’t want to lose.”
The loss to Bayer means that Spurs have now lost both of their Champions League home games at Wembley this season, with the national stadium being used instead of home ground White Hart Lane.
It has been suggested by pundits and media outlets that the change of venue has been a direct factor in the club’s poor European home form, but Son believes it is difficult to simply use that as an excuse.
He added: “It’s difficult to say. Every three days, we have a game, it’s difficult, physically, also. We just did not have a good day.
“I think White Hart Lane is a bit smaller than Wembley. I don’t know. It’s the same football. It’s difficult to say.”
Son and his teammates must now regroup immediately ahead of Sunday’s crucial derby showdown against arch-rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
