Son Heung-min has compared Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to “superman” after his performance on Sunday in the 4-0 win over Aston Villa. Lloris made some wonderful saves, as Spurs secured another win.

Spurs secured a fourth consecutive Premier League win on Saturday evening over Steven Gerrard’s Villa – but the 4-0 scoreline did not reflect the game. Villa were excellent in the first 45, and deserved to score one or two.

Indeed, Spurs had their captain to thank as the £12m (Goal) signing pulled off a few wonderful saves – notably, a powerful shot from Jacob Ramsey only a few yards in front of him, that Lloris managed to tip over the bar.

Son got himself a hat-trick and Dejan Kulusevski scored his third in Spurs colours – but it was Lloris that was probably his side’s best player on the day. The South Korea skipper paid tribute to Lloris, on Tottenham’s website.

“He saved us. Hugo saved us in a tough time when we needed him. He made saves like superman, like a cat you know. It’s insane. I was really surprised when he made that first save. The first shot was really close to him.”

Lloris on Son: Tottenham star is getting better with age

A couple of seasons ago, quite a large proportion of Tottenham fans were keen to see the back of the 2018 World Cup winner. He was making a number of mistakes – high profile ones, in big games.

But Lloris is getting better with age. He signed a new deal in January to keep him at the club until the summer of 2024 – when he will be 37. While he continues to produce miracles, he will remain at Tottenham. Rightly so.
