Son, who can operate as a winger or as a forward, joined Tottenham from German club Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015.
The 26-year-old did not have a great debut season in the Premier League for Spurs, as the South Korea international was able to make just six starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League, scoring three goals and providing four assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
Son has said that he wanted to leave Tottenham after a difficult first season at Spurs.
“I came close to leaving,” Son told The London Evening Standard. “I went to the gaffer’s office and told him I didn’t feel comfortable and wanted to leave for Germany.”
